After graduating from Pellissippi State with an A.A.S. degree in Business Administration – Marketing, Mike went on to Lincoln Memorial University where he earned a B.S. degree in Business – Management & Leadership Studies. After graduation, Mike enrolled in LMU’s PostBac program for initial teacher licensure and is currently on pace to earn certification in December 2012.
After working in the industrial minerals business at Carmeuse Lime & Stone in Luttrell, Tennessee for 15 years, Mike joined the UCPS team in July 2010. Since then, he, along with Jerry Walker and Keith Beason, has implemented a service driven philosophy for facility maintenance and operations. Recent projects and improvements include implementing a routine hvac preventative maintenance schedule; upgrading kitchen hood and duct hardware / fire suppression systems at Big Ridge, Sharps Chapel Elementary and Horace Maynard Middle; improving the fire alarm system at Maynardville Elementary; upgrading facility lighting in four schools (Luttrell, Maynardville, Sharps Chapel, and Horace Maynard); re-roofing major portions of SCES; and destroying and removing the old portable classrooms at MES. UCPS has also enrolled in a partnership agreement with TVA/Enernoc’s Demand Smart energy management program in an effort to reduce costs, raise revenue, and reduce our carbon footprint.
Mike has lived in Union County for almost thirty years where he currently resides with wife Crystal who is an educator at Union County High School. They have two daughters who both attend Union County schools. In addition to family and career, Mike also has a deep passion for Union County basketball. He has served as boys Assistant Coach at UCHS for ten seasons, currently under Head Coach Shane Brown. While in high school, Mike played for district and regional championship teams at Horace Maynard under Coach Lewis Morris.
